Our '22 graduates are leaving Oregon State University as accomplished young scientists; they have presented their work at scientific conferences, co-authored papers in scientific publications with faculty mentors and even won top national awards for their research and academic accomplishments.
They have also expanded their professional and intellectual horizons by taking part in transformative experiences, such as internships, study abroad programs, leadership experiences and more, transforming from great students into extraordinary future leaders in science. Together, they exemplify the College’s commitment to excellence in science education and an inclusive, diverse learning community. We couldn’t be prouder of them!
By the numbers
This year’s College of Science graduating class includes 620 undergraduate students receiving baccalaureate degrees, including 88 Honors grads. Three-quarters (501) of our graduates study the life sciences, with Biology having the most graduates at 184. BioHealth Sciences came in second with 150 graduates; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology had 72 graduates; Mathematics 58; Zoology 54; Microbiology 27; Chemistry 44; Physics 18; and Biochemistry and Biophysics graduated 14 students.
In addition, 17 science students from OSU Cascades and 33 from OSU Ecampus are also graduating with a bachelor’s degree in science.
Of the total baccalaureate graduates, 13% are underrepresented minorities and 21% are first-generation students. In addition, 10 of the 2022 baccalaureate graduates are military veterans.
The College also awarded 120 graduate degrees: 39 doctoral degrees and 81 master’s degrees.
Of those 39 doctoral degrees, Chemistry had 14 Ph.D. students, followed by Integrative Biology at six. Statistics, Mathematics, Physics and Biochemistry and Biophysics each graduated four Ph.D. students, and Microbiology graduated three doctoral students.
The Department of Statistics awarded 12 master's degrees in statistics and 26 master’s of science degrees in data analytics. Chemistry awarded 16 master’s degrees and Physics awarded 12. Mathematics awarded seven master's degrees, Microbiology awarded five and Integrative Biology awarded three.
