The College of Science at Oregon State University adheres to the university admission criteria. Admission is not automatic and is at the discretion of the College of Science. The College does not conditionally admit at the post-bacc level.
Contact the Science Success Center for more information.
The following deadlines are followed within the College of Science for post-bac applications. All pre-requisite coursework must be completed at the time of application.
- Fall term: August 1
- Winter term: November 1
- Spring term: February 1
- Summer term: May 1
Note: These dates differ from University deadlines. Applications received after these dates may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the College and individual departments.
Applicants for consideration must meet the College of Science post-bacc admissions requirements. Students seeking admissions into pre-health professions programs are subject to the following additional admissions requirements:
Must possess a BA/BS from a regionally accredited institution. The College of Science does not admit students pursuing a post-baccalaureate degree in the same or closely related field as their original degree of study.
Successful completion of MTH 111 or higher with a C- or better.
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Students with a GPA of 2.25-2.75 will be reviewed for the following criteria, demonstrated by supporting information:
- Strength of undergraduate preparation;
- Evidence of improved GPA in the last two years;
- Exemplary service such as military service, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, etc.;
- Evidence of maturity and commitment to a new major.
A written statement explaining your interest in the degree program and how it fits into your personal and career goals.
Pre-Health professions admissions requirements
Further admissions requirements apply to students planning to pursue a health profession (medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, physician assistant, veterinary medicine, etc.) following completion of a College of Science post-baccalaureate degree. These students must have a demonstrated history of academic success, including meeting all of the following criteria:
- High grades in previous science courses attempted (3.0 minimum);
- Overall academic success (3.0 minimum);
- Suitability for their desired major;
- Demonstrated commitment to a health profession;
- Meet the pre-medical post-baccalaureate program requirements (pre-medical students).
Pre-professional students may be asked to submit additional materials in the evaluation of the above criteria.
Students who are not admitted to post-baccalaureate status may still take classes at Oregon State University as non-degree students. Any subsequent admission decision will then be based on the GPA from the first degree plus any subsequent credits earned.
Registration Information for Post-Bacc Students
New post-bacc students require a PIN to register and may not register until receiving a PIN from an advisor. Post-bacc students may be required to attend START at the discretion of the major department advisor. In the College of Science, new post-baccalaureate students may register after Phase II (after all currently enrolled students have registered). For Fall Term, Post-baccs may register on the first Transfer START Day. After the first registration, Post-bacc students must meet with an advisor and get a new PIN prior to each Fall Term registration. Currently enrolled post-bacc students register after Seniors during Priority Registration.
To reach an advisor, contact the appropriate College of Science department.
Requirements for Second Bachelor’s Degree
Post-bacc students are not required to complete the Baccalaureate Core at OSU, but must complete all major and College of Science requirements as well as OSU residency requirements in order to get a second bachelor’s degree (see Academic Regulation 26 & 27)
