Essential to our community is program-level evaluation and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). We want to study how our model can affect students' experiences and outcomes, faculty practices, and cultural change. Our research questions include: Will a ground-up peer learning community based in SoTL create the classroom changes we seek, as evidenced by changes in instructional classroom practices, student DFW rates and retention in COS? Will a program such as ours actually foster SoTL among our colleagues, as determined by SoTL knowledge pre/post program, productivity, and publication? Will we create tiered mentorship within the college, in which leaders are recognized as discipline based education researchers? And, will raising awareness of the importance of SoTL to all in COS, an interdisciplinary group with variable proficiency with SoTL, influence our culture of teaching, as determined by attitudinal surveys among faculty members and COS leaders?
