The College of Science hosted its 2018 Scholarship Dessert to honor our extraordinary science students. The annual celebration, which was held on June 4, provides an opportunity for our generous donors who support scholarships to meet and build connections with our students that their philanthropy supports.
Students, alumni, friends, advisors and faculty came together to enjoy festive cupcakes and celebrate the success of scholarship recipients. Welcome and introductory remarks were delivered by Roy Haggerty, Dean of the College of Science, and Henri Jansen, Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs. They recognized the impressive academic achievements of our students and the incredible generosity of our scholarship donors. Microbiology student Dang Duong ('18) and chemistry alumna Lena Ferguson ('17) shared what scholarships meant to them and how they affected their lives.
Judy Faucett (B.S. Mathematics, '70), who generously established the new Rise Scholarship in 2017 to support science students with disabilities, shared her inspiring perspective on scholarship opportunities and how they enabled her to pursue her education and dreams.
Thanks to the support of our donors, the College of Science was able to award several new scholarships this year:
