The College of Science Student Advisory Committee (COSSAC) welcomed all new science students to its annual Fall Welcoming Social September 23 in front of Kidder Hall on the Valley Library Quad.
New students enjoyed ice cream floats, connected with current science students and met faculty and advisors Science clubs. Other student organizations and academic resources attended to help new students get acclimated and adjust to a life of science at OSU.
COSSAC is comprised of representatives from all of the science student organizations, from mathematics, physics and chemistry to biohealth sciences, biochemistry & biophysics, microbiology and biology.
Many new students joined the Peer Mentoring Program, which is coordinated by science student organizations. The program pairs new students up with a mentor who is a sophomore, junior and senior science major. Peer to peer mentoring helps new students connect with more experience students to foster collaboration and support as they begin their academic career in science.
The program is about students helping students, not only passing along knowledge gained during their time at OSU, but also to share lessons earned from past mistakes and provide guidance for future decisions. All of which is tremendously helpful in science. Welcome to OSU and thanks for joining us for ice cream floats and science talk!
