Our Launching Undergraduate Research Experiences, or LURE Science, pays students while they gain invaluable research experiences alongside their studies.

College of Science students who have not participated in research are invited to develop a project with a faculty mentor to deepen their learning and college journey.

Our students have the opportunity to work alongside faculty mentors who are leaders in their field. Students’ work contributes to real-world solutions and meaningful globally impactful knowledge. These are just some of the research projects that our students contribute to:

Genetic code expansion
Field research with songbirds
Impact of climate change on coral reef health

Application guidelines

Who is eligible?

We welcome full-time undergraduate students who are pursuing a bachelor's degree with a major in the College of Science to apply. Preference will be given to students who have not participated in research and are in their junior or senior year. Students will need to be planning to enroll in courses during the fall, winter and spring terms of the year they will conduct their research. Faculty mentors need to be affiliated with Oregon State University, but need not be in the College of Science.

Award Information

Recipients of the LURE Science award will be paid for 10 hours a week during the academic year (approximately 300 hours) and will be paid on an hourly basis. Awardees also receive an additional $500 for research expenses to support their project.

Additional LURE Science requirements

LURE students will be part of a cohort of students engaging in professional development opportunities throughout the academic year, and will present their research during the spring term of their project.
