Inclusive Excellence Lecture: ‘The wider story of IE@OSU’

The transformative potential of inclusive excellence in STEM education lies in its capacity to identify barriers to student success and create pathways to overcome them. Through the Inclusive Excellence (IE@OSU) program, faculty and administrators are empowered to foster equitable learning environments and create meaningful change in science and society.

In a lecture titled “The wider story of IE@OSU: Faculty, food and fun,” program members will share inspiring stories, their strategies for success and behind-the-scenes insights into the program’s journey.

The lecture is open to all and will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. in LaSells Stewart Center’s Construction & Engineering Hall. A poster session will follow, with refreshments and drinks.

About IE@OSU

Since its inception in 2019, IE@OSU has supported STEM faculty at OSU, Linn-Benton Community College and Lane Community College in integrating equitable teaching practices into their work. Over 80 fellows have participated, implementing initiatives such as diversifying curricula, fostering belonging in introductory courses and prioritizing mental health and community in graduate advising.

The IE@OSU program received the 2024 College of Science Inclusive Excellence Award for its leadership in fostering a culture of inclusion. This marks the third annual lecture in the series, with previous speakers including materials scientist Marilyn Rampersad Mackiewicz in 2023 and marine biologist Kirsten Grorud-Colvert in 2024.

This year’s IE@OSU lecture and poster session offer a valuable opportunity to engage in the ongoing transformation of STEM at Oregon State University, helping to shape a more inclusive and equitable future for educators, students and the broader scientific community.

The poster session will showcase action plans, experiences and innovative approaches from IE Fellows. This interactive session, accompanied by wine, beer and light hors d’oeuvres, aims to encourage collaboration and inspire new ideas.
