Just in time for the eclipse: The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is recruiting for its fall 2017 cohort of the Science Communication Fellowship program, geared especially for those in Earth and/or Space Science.
OMSI has numerous scholarships available for students, researchers, practitioners, and others in the field of Earth and/or Space Science. Tuition for the program is $1,500 per participant.
All science students, OSU-affiliated graduate students, faculty, staff and post-docs are encouraged to apply! The deadline for the fall cohort is Wednesday, August 23. Apply online for both the fellowship and the scholarship.
OMSI’s Science Communication Fellowship prepares STEM professionals to effectively communicate with the public about their work through a series of engaging, interactive professional development workshops. Fellows also develop a unique, hands-on demonstration about their work that they can share with the public at bi-monthly “Meet a Scientist” events at the museum.
The Science Communication Fellows will:
- Participate in OMSI's Science Communication "Short Course," a series of four professional development workshops focused on building skills to effectively communicate with public audiences. Workshops are 3–4 hours each, spaced over the course of three to four months.
- Collaborate with museum educators to develop a unique, hands-on activity and display representing each Fellow's work.
- Participate in a minimum of three “Meet a Scientist” programs per year. The public programs take place on the second Saturday of each month and exclusively feature OMSI Fellows with their hands-on, table-top activities.
The OMSI Science Communication Fellowship program is an excellent way to fulfill broader impact and outreach goals required for grant-funded research currently underway at OSU.
Earth and Space Sciences Scholarships
Three Fellowship scholarships are available for researchers, practitioners, students, and others who are working in the field of Earth and/or Space Science, with particular emphasis in Earth Science, Planetary Science, Heliophysics and Astrophysics. For more information on these areas, please see NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD). Selected Fellows will be invited to participate in special Earth and Space Science programming and events.
