The meeting provides offers an excellent opportunity for faculty to meet colleagues in the region and to recruit graduate students. Students can hone their presentation skills by describing their research, meet peers from institutions across Oregon and build their professional network.
Meetings will be held in LiNC, OSU's newest classroom building. The four-story, technology-rich learning environment features more than 2,300 general purpose classroom seats in 14 unique, state-of-the-art classrooms, including arena- and parliament-style arrangements.
“We look forward to your participation in a rich day of Science, in a unique, inspiring environment,” said OAS President Douglas Keszler, who is Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in OSU’s College of Science.
Keszler is also a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, an adjunct professor in physics and the Director of Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry.

Fellow chemistry professor Mas Subramanian, 2016 OAS Outstanding Scientist and OSU’s Milton Harris Professor of Materials Science, will present a plenary lecture entitled “Eureka! Discovery of a New Class of ‘Cool’ Inorganic Pigments for Art and Industry.”
OSU Physics Professor Corrine Manogue and OSU Mathematics Professor Tevian Dray, 2016 OAS Outstanding Educators in Science and Mathematics, will make an interactive presentation on “Lessons Learned from the Paradigms and Bridge Projects” in LINC’s unique 600-seat theatre in the round. Dray received the 2017 Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished Teaching of Mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America at the 2017 Joint Mathematics Meetings in Atlanta January 4-7.

The 2016 Oregon Academy of Science meeting at Pacific University was a success and comprised 80 oral presentations and 24 posters covering 11 subject divisions and the Junior Academy.

OAS is now accepting nominations for Outstanding Scientist Award and Outstanding Educator in Science and Mathematics Awards. Nominations may be made by any member of the Academy. The deadline is February 2, 2017. Award presentations will be made at the annual meeting.
