ScienceSpeak: Career Q&A with physics alumnus

Study of Astrophysics

Science students are invited to register for ScienceSpeak, a lively lunch discussion and conversation with physics alumnus Shane Larson (BS, ’91) on April 12. ScienceSpeak is a career development series sponsored by the Office of Career Development and the College of Science featuring science alumni.

We all know a thing or two about Albert Einstein's theory of General Relativity. He theorized that gravitational waves existed in 1915 but until now scientists haven't been able to prove it.

Larson, a Northwestern University astrophysicist, is a member of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) Scientific Collaboration which on September 14, 2015, detected gravitational waves for the first time, proving Einstein correct after 100 years.

In this Career Q&A session, Shane is going to answer your career-related questions. Join us to learn how he paved his career and became a scientist on the world's best known research project.

Time: 12 - 1:00 pm

Venue: Kidder Hall, room 128
