Top lawyer recognized for powerful equity work

Román D. Hernández was the recipient of the 2021 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Legacy Award at the 2021 Oregon State Black and Orange Awards, which took place on Thursday, October 21. The event celebrates alumni who are making an impact in their communities. It is a chance to by inspired by their extraordinary stories of supporting others, forging connections and building success in their careers.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Legacy Award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated a deep and abiding commitment to causes of social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion and who exemplify and enrich Oregon State’s values of community, diversity, respect and social responsibility in their broader community or organization.

A nationally recognized attorney specializing in labor and employment law and commercial litigation, Hernández is the Office Managing Partner at Troutman Pepper’s Portland office. He regularly hosts law students at his law firm to meet other Latino lawyers to inspire them that they can achieve the same levels of success.

“Education has been fundamental and transformative in my personal life, and without education, I don’t know where I would be right now. And so for me it was important to give back to the community and to create something that would benefit the next generation,” said Hernández.
