With a curriculum combined with co-curricular experiences, our Integrated Professional Development program helps students develop and connect knowledge and skills throughout their undergraduate education at Oregon State, in and out of the classroom.

Our unique Integrated Professional Development features a suite of innovative career preparation programs based on a one-of-a-kind platform that helps students develop professional development skills. The content is integrated into First-Year Experience science courses and prepares you for experiential learning to stand out in the job or graduate school market. This program is paramount to our students’ success beyond the classroom.

Key components

You will have access to special networking events with industry leaders, alumni and employers. You will receive coaching on how to secure an internship, how to talk about your strengths and areas of improvement with employers, ways to translate your classroom learning and lab experiences in interviews and more.

Our special integrated platform helps students build the requisite skill set needed for career and life success in the 21st century. With its holistic approach, the program ensures that students explore and imagine different career paths and life goals early in their studies, hone job-seeking skills such as resume writing and interviewing and build the interpersonal skills so highly valued by employers.

With our one-of-a-kind Integrated Professional Development platform, is a broad-based approach to career preparation and planning exclusively for science students and it is integrated right into your courses. Students who participate in this program will be better able to articulate what they learned and apply it in their academic majors, to other areas science, in job interviews and ultimately in the workplace.

After participating in our integrated professional development program, you will have refined your writing, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills and expanded your thinking to be able to evaluate different perspectives. You will gain confidence in your ability to apply knowledge and skills to specific situations, better preparing you for a career.

Currently, Integrated Professional Development is incorporated into all science courses for biology and zoology majors with plans underway to expand into all science majors in a couple years.
